Next Generation $5 Banknotes.
The Reserve Bank of Australia has begun rolling out the Next Generation $5 banknotes from 1 September 2016. The new banknotes include new security features to prevent counterfeiting. The most obvious is the top to bottom window. It also includes tactile features to help the visually impaired to identify between the notes. The Next Generation $10, $20 $50 and $100 notes will be released progressively.
What machines will be affected?
The new notes will affect cash management safes, gaming machines, vending machines and other machines which include note readers. Current banknote acceptors or readers will not be able to recognise the new note. A software upgrade to your existing note reader or a new note reader will be required.
